CONSERVATION PROJECTS

A record of what we've done and what we're working on from community surveys and citizen science to cultural partnerships and education on the Tweed Coast.

These are the programs and initiatives we are actively running or building toward. Join us, contribute data, or get in touch to find out more.

Current projects

Threatened Species Surveys

Monthly count surveys tracking sea turtles, shorebirds and other threatened species at Cook Island Aquatic Reserve and the Tweed estuary. Volunteer-run using standardised citizen science methods — data submitted to national monitoring programs.

Turtle Code of Conduct

A community guide developed by Green Heroes to protect sea turtles at Cook Island from disturbance by swimmers, snorkellers and divers. The code sets clear expectations for respectful interaction with turtles in the wild — helping people enjoy the reserve without causing harm.
